One Clown, Many Tongues

Fanny Duret, writer and performer of The Forbidden, makes her solo debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year.

Set at a lecture of French philosopher “Jean-René,” The Forbidden thrusts Juliette (the assistant to Jean-René) into the deep end — and into the spotlight — when Jean-René fails to make an appearance. Without lecturer, Juliette fills in with an array of impromptu diversion.

Duret, who hails from Switzerland, has toured throughout Europe and to South America with various prestigious theater companies, performing in both French and Italian. For Edinburgh, polyglot Duret will perform in English with touches of French throughout.

While studying at École Philippe Gaulier, Duret also met Lucy Hopkins (Winner: Best Theater 2013, Adelaide Fringe) who served as a creative ally during the initial creation of The Forbidden.
